What is Negative SEO

Negative SEO is the use of search engine optimization strategies to harm a competitor’s website’s search engine ranking by exploiting and taking advantage of Google’s and other search engines’ algorithms.

Its also used to get rid or push down brand negative search results (by others) to 2nd or 3rd page of google search results.

Negative SEO is a technique used as part of brands ORM strategy and a very effective method to control brand reputation.

Lets understand this by an example, Suppose some unsatisfied customer of a brand A (Brand A sells fashion) blog about his bad experience despite there is no issue within the product and get traction online, the blog start ranking on google 1st page and start getting good traction (clicks) in results hampering the sales of the brand and after many efforts by the brand to convince the customer but custom not willing to take down that blog post. In this situation Brand have to use Negative SEO to reduce the impact of this.

As online reviews are trusted by 85% of consumers as much as personal recommendations. Hence its important for brand to tackle bad reviews to reduce the impact of negative reviews.
